Summary

This project-related warm-up method works best for small to medium-sized groups and can help overcome difficulties with language and cultural differences. The team imagines that aliens have landed on earth and the first thing they want to know more about is your current project. Of course, they do not understand any language spoken on earth, so you have to find another way to explain your product. Therefore the group has to split into teams, which now have to deliver the essence of your project using only four scribbles.

Step-by-step
  1. Split up into 3 – 4 groups depending on the size of the team. Now hand out pencils and sheets of paper or make sure every team has access to their own copy of the "The Aliens Have Landed" template in FigJam (if you are playing in an online meeting).

  2. Now each team thinks about four motives that would explain the project in the most understandable way. Don't hesitate to start sketching, sometimes even abstract seeming ideas will deliver the concept in a distinctive way. Keep in mind that neither the scribbles nor the explanation of why you chose them have to be flawless.

  3. In the end, each group presents their results to the other teams. Make sure to not use words but let the scribbles speak for themselves.
